Greetings,
I have a souvenir envelope containing a number of FDCs, each with a different Field Post Office cancel--. I show FPO 744 Laos.

I have tried for months to find these listed on the Net and always failed. Are they worth anything?

Grateful for your help

Michael

Have you looked on ebay? Try ebay UK.

"Worth" is in the eyes of the collector. I did find this "completed" listing on ebay for three examples listed a few days ago, including one with the same postmark as yours. They were originally listed for $41.99, then lowered to $25.99 with starting bid at $15.99, but alas, no sale -- even with free shipping.

I have no idea if there's any source for those numbers or if they were merely created by the Seller, but with no sale at $15.99 (about $5.33 per cover), I can only imagine that demand for them must be quite low and/or they are overpriced even at that minimum bid amount:

ebay is a strange place. While the one seller couldn't sell three of them for $15.99, another seller sold one cover for about $16.23

Shipping wasn't free either.

And if you have any covers like this one listed below:

That's grossly overpriced, but I've sold them for around $12-$13 each.

Battlestamps: The first ebay link is for a cover sold by Stanley Gibbons Group. That in itself could explain the premium price, so I would think.

Bottom line is that these covers -- or virtually any stamps or covers -- are "worth" what a buyer is willing to pay for them. It also may reflect what part of the world a collector is in who wants them. What may be popular or in demand in the US may have a completely different interest group among those in another part of the world.

The second link was pulled with the following remark:
Quote:
This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing.
Perhaps the seller meant to price it at $11.99 instead of $119.99.
