Does anyone own the SG Luxury Hingeless Album for Great Britain or any other SG albums for other British Commonwealth countries? If so, what are your thoughts about it? Can you post some sample page pictures?

Hi Neeskens13,

If you mean these (screengrab below) they are made for Stanley Gibbons by Davo in the Nederlands, and are spine printed with the Stanley Gibbons name. Six so far in the set and, considering their high cost, the paper described as extra heavyweight falls short of that in my opinion. The backs of the pages seem prone to ripples where the mounts are stuck. Probably due to the exuberance of the lickers and stickers and their generosity with their spit.

Terry
(Apologies for the poor quality of the SG catalogue image)

I was referring to this one, which I think is different. Seems to be produced by SG, not Davo.

Hi Neeskens13,

That is the same album. It is badged as a Stanley Gibbons album, but it is made by Davo. The pages are available with or without mounts. Mounts are clear only I believe. They are nice, but in view of what I have seen of the paper/mount ripple (maybe they have fixed that) I would buy the albums without mounts. And do my own (controlled) licking and sticking.

Some album pics and page layout examples here from that other place.

You are very welcome, Neeskens. The SG/Davo albums are well made and nicely laid out to the SG catalogue, but I would still go for pages without mounts and get the new self adhesive mounts and do them myself. But then mostly I use hinges so it wouldn't be a problem. So many choices, so little time.

SG also plans to re-release their New Age album (QEII to 1962) sometime before the holidays, per an email I got from someone there. I have their George VI commonwealth album and it is very nice- albeit a little overpriced IMO.
