Last week I had a business trip to London and took time to visit a number of sites related to philately or philatelic history. Images may be viewed at:
http://philately.shutterfly.comSites included:
-- Statute of Rowland Hill in front of the former Post Office building
-- Postmans Park across the street
-- Museum exhibits and library of Royal Philatelic Society London, in which I applied for membership
-- Parts of the Tapling Collection on view at the British Library
-- Stanley Gibbons at 399 Strand
-- Argyll Etkin live auction which yielded 4 purchases of stamps and postal history
-- And, finally, a Royal Mail office from which I posted home an envelope bearing a computer-drawn souvenir cachet of my own design, based on the Mulready caricature. (Image to follow - it's in transit)
All good fun and a full week. Anyone who hasn't made the rounds of these sites should plan on it when in town.
