200th Anniversary of the Birth of János Bolyai

János Bolyai (1802 - 1860) was a Hungarian mathematician, one of the founders of non-Euclidean geometry - geometry on surface of positive curvature (elliptic) or negative curvature (hyperbolic).
The stamp design features his Appendix Explaining the Absolutely True Science of Space published in 1831 as an appendix to his father's book on geometry.

The design includes mathematical formulas, wave function curve, and the notches on the Ishango bone.
The Ishango bone was discovered in the Belgian Congo in 1960 and is dated at ca. 20000 years old. The three columns of asymmetrically grouped notches on the bone have been interpreted as a a numeral system or a six-month lunar calendar.

Jean-Baptiste le Rond d'Alembert (1717 - 1783) was a French mathematician, physicist, philosopher, and music theorist. His formula for obtaining solutions to the wave equation is sometimes referred to as d'Alembert's equation. He was a pioneer in the study of partial differential equations and their use in physics.

Seki Takakazu, a Japanese mathematician in the Edo perido. He is known to be the greatest mathematician of japanese traditional mathematics called "Wa-San"; based on yhis totally different theoretical basis, he has made numerous discoveries which are equivalent to classic theories of western mathematics.
