I had this stamp on a War Tax exhibit that I'm working on, and labeled it as a bank cancel, but now I'm not sure. In editing some of the pages before this upcoming weekend's show, I've removed it from the page, partly to make room for other material/info, partly because I have my doubts.
I'm not sure how I came to the conclusion that this was a bank cancel. Backtracking, I can't seem to find the reference.

Can any of you kind folk chime in and give me an idea what this may be. My instincts are to stick with 'bank', but I like to be sure.

jamesw...I cant find a darn thing on this stamp, unless the post office at this time and a particular place had a non Government cancellation stamp that they were using....Maybe you got "one of a kind"...

Hey wert. Doubt that. The post office would have nothing to do with it, as this is a revenue stamp. Used on cheques, money orders, other commercial banking stuff. Though I do have one use on a cover, but that was a definite no no.
So I know it's not a postal cancel.
Thought I was done, goes to show it's always somethin'.

I'd bet it was cancelled in a lawyer's office on a will or bill of sale. Something like that.

On a whim, I checked the Buckacover website, knowing they have a lot of cheques listed there (none in my collection have this cancel).
Sure enough, there was one. Seems to have one less line, but still, I think this answers my question.

Guess I should have thought to CHEQUE there first.
