Correct. Unitrade writes "Examples of unissued 52¢ and 90¢ denominations, printed in anticipation of a rate increase which was not approved, are known in private hands (that would be you Kevin). No multiples exist as they were split into singles before reaching the philatelic market.
As an aside, the images done for this series were created by one of my favourite Canadian illustrators Nina Berkson. |

Question: was anyone ever charged for releasing these unapproved "stamps"?
Question 2: has anyone ever been charged for the vast troves of cutting room floor stuff from stamp production facilities now being sold? |

Both the 52c and 90c are currently offered by John Jamieson (Saskatoon Stamp Centre) at CAD150 and CAD500 respectively and CAD600 for the set of 2. |

A lot of money for a stamp that was never issued ... but was sitting innocently in a flea market (according to Gary Lyon) ... only to be picked up by a sharp-eyed philatelist who spied the subtle difference ... because the seller had no idea what he/she was selling ... because the seller had no idea where he/she got it ... not at the local post office, obviously, because it was never issued. ... yeah, right, Gary!
I would NEVER buy this stamp (or its little friend 52¢). That would only encourage the thief to steal again. CAD $600 x 50 stamps/sheet = $30,000 (proceeds from a crime).
These stamps (like sex-tapes) were never meant to see the light of day. |
