BC, these were from recent Eastern Auctions. Now I need to sort by...perf, paper, tag, cancels, and look for varieties. I'll get a medical check up to make sure I have at least another 30 years ahead of me to complete the task (if I check 10/day, that's roughly 30 years of enjoyment....) |

Pretty cool, although they would take me 3 lifetimes to sort! Looks like each bag is only one value. |

Gilles - I bought 10 kilos of Canada off paper 3-4 years ago and sorted it all - looking for varieties. I had a great time. I especially enjoyed working with the few thousand calla lily which has a huge colour variation and a lot of shifting. This is hard work on your back and eyes though. |

Well - I don't look for unlisted varieties - I figure if someone else hasn't spotted it it's likely not going to me to be the first. You need a very good magnifying glass and a good overhead light. I have a 10X glass but wish it was stronger. Stay on one stamp issue till you finish it. Then bag the discards into glassines of 100 and sell them singly or as a lot. There are other people who look for different things. Plus - don't forget to look for good postmarks especially SONs. |

The following is from the Siegel catalogue 1049 'The World Traveller' Sale, June 26-27, 2013. "The collection has been formed over 60 years by a father and his son. Together, they started with Great Britain's 1840 Penny Black and Two-Pence Blue and ended with stamps issued in 1981, a span of 141 years. In that time period there are approximately 260,000 major Scott Catalogue listings and another 33,000 Scott-listed varieties, such as overprint errors, color variations, imperforates, and others. The World Traveler collection is one of the most complete worldwide collections ever assembled for the time period covered, comprising all but about 1,600 major listings (over 99% complete) and more than 85% of the minor varieties. It is a remarkable collecting achievement. As the photograph captures in part, the collection fills more than 725 Scott Specialty Albums!" By my calculations that's 286,450 different stamps. This is what some of it looks like This is one of those 'it's not fair' collections, for instance lot 5, the set of Anguilla Independence MUH went for $23,000 & there's lots more. Here's the link to the sale http://www.siegelauctions.com/dynam...sale_no=1049 |

Well at least they have been sorted/seperated. Each bag looks alike. It's not like you have 50 different countries in each bag. That really would be over whelming. Gilles le timbre, I'm sure your going to have a lot of fun. How big are the bags? How much does each weigh? Is each bag the same approximate size? Just curious. |

My guess is that picture of 100,000 stamps has already been sorted and picked over ,if not once maybe twice by previous owners . |
