These may not be your cup of tea, but I just received 20 Collins "Hand Painted" covers for the Classic American Aircraft sheet (Scott #3142a-t) for the grand price of $13.99 ($7.99 plus $6.00 shipping):

It is not like the dealer doesn't know the value of these, to judge from the prices being asked for other Collins covers. And these all have a dollar amount of $11.40 on the back of them. Maybe a "9" was left off, and the dealer was intending to ask $79.99 for the lot. That would still have been a bargain, though. They usually go for $11-$13 each, and our friend "billsbargainstamps" wants to set you back $30 each for these.

My only real surprise is that somebody didn't snap them up before I did.

Basil

Nice! Although a little modern for my collection the theme alone makes them fit! Nice covers and great price! Well Done!

ILS,

About half of my collection is concentrated in US Airmail postage and covers, and the other half in regular US postage and covers with an aviation theme. The latter starts with Scott #'s 649-650, and the most recent is last year's Chief Anderson stamp (#4789). So this collection of covers is a nice fit in with the latter collection. I doubt that I would have ever tried to acquire all 20 of these at the usual price of $12-$13 each, but at this price I couldn't pass it up. Most of the newer items in my aviation topical collection consist of a stamp, a plate block, and a sheet, all mint, and a few covers (maybe half a dozen on average). For the Classic Aircraft sheet (Scott 3142), I've concentrated on covers with multiple stamps (Bevil has the 20 stamps on five covers, of which I have four, still looking for the fifth), or something novel, like this:

Collins covers are "okay," but sometimes overrated (and thus overpriced) in my opinion. But I'm still thrilled to have these!

Basil

Like I have always said, "I guess you have to be lucky once in a while".

I think it is the lucky finds that make us all that more interested. All part of the stamp collecting turf I guess.

Congratulations for picking up such a bargain.
