Welcome to the group. I know little about printing, but I am sure there are those on this group that do.

Just in case you do speak some English, Welcome to the forum Papy24!
Now we need Gilles or Wert because my high school French is close to a hundred years ago!

I am really disappointed that all the posts
by the new French member Papy24 are
removed.

Granted his posts are written in French and this is an English (mainly American)
stamp board but just to remove them with
*** Edited by Staff - English Only ***
is plain rude.

This person seems to have some knowledge
about the printing of engraved stamps which some
members here might be interested in.
Instead of these constant posts about ebay or paypal or "how much is
my grandfather's, aunts', fathers' etc etc very old
and valuable collection worth."

There is Google translate or Babelfish or any number of
sites which could be used by SCF members.
Or perhaps some one with a good knowledge of French and
English could translate it for us but to just
remove the posts is the wrong thing to do IMO.

I'm sorry to be a problem. I'll try to write English using Google. I was a stamp printer, probably the last to use typography for stamps in France. I also know well the intaglio used in France for rotary stamps 3 or 6 colors. I also know the material used in France to print letterpress, gravure or rotogravure and offset.
I look for all the information and pictures on the printing of stamps and equipment. I found on your site a lot of useful information. I can also give you the information that I have, like I gave my French blog.
Sincerely.

Papy24

Bonjour Papy24

I hope that that the mods don't remove
this post due to that unacceptable "foreign" word

Welcome to the board.
You appear to have a wealth of knowledge
regarding stamp printing and I for one
am looking forward to any info you can
provide in your future posts.

In my opinion there isn't enough information
or discussions about stamp production
on this or any of the other stamp forums.

Well, we can't win either way. If we remove things we're the bad guys and if we edit things we're the bad guys.

Here's the bottom line, this is a moderated family friendly forum. The Staff cannot moderate what they don't understand, so only English will be permitted.

Thank you for your welcome. I will follow your forum and answer all the questions to be asked regarding the printing of French stamps.

For the stamps of other countries, I do not know their manufacture and the equipment used, but I can understand seeing the photo of the machine. I have seen for example that the press "Giori" printed in intaglio and gravure. This is not the same as for the press "Chambon 6 colors (TD6)" used in France.
These differences are very important for the result and that we can see on the stamps.

Papy24 - It is really nice to see you again on this forum offering help to those of us interested in stamp production processes even if translating French technical terms into English using Google Translate can prove to be a pretty hard job. May I suggest that you use original French terms side by side what Google Translate presents as their English equivalents whenever in difficulty, perhaps with reference to a link in French to make things clear. Thank you.

I missed your post of 11/25/2014 12:08 pm on the Retired Stamp Printer's Blog ... thread as I found it already deleted when I switched on my grandchildren's computer. I imagine you wanted to point out to me that the Giori presses used in the U.S. were different from the Chambon ones used in France and so were their products. I was not aware of the fact that it was that make of presses used for printing stamps in your country, so now, thanks to you, I know the difference.

As for presses used for the production of engraved stamps, so far we have mentioned Stickneys, WIFAGs, Goebels, Koenig & Bauers, Gioris (using three inking units), and S.T.I.F.s (using four inking units), comparing their produce, and now we come to Chambons, which we mistook for Giori presses. Thank you very much for this clarification.
