First Day Of Issue - 3 Decades Late

I received a recently won ebay item in the following envelope from a dealer in Cornwall. I have blurred my address and his PO Box number.)



Both cancellations are from Feb. 8, 1985

Amazing how that got through the mail this week!

(Strangely (though you cannot tell from the scan) the dealer scotch-taped up the sides, ruining the two outer stamps!

I'm not sure how common this is, but I too have received a recent ebay purchase from a Canadian mailed in an older FDC without additional postage added. As to the Scotch tape, that's one of my pet peeves. Every time I buy an item from Canada it arrives with a taped to the stuffer, and another half roll of tape used to seal the envelope. Does everybody in Canada own stock in 3M?

I hate when sellers/dealers tape over stamps....

CanadaStamp: The sender tapes the cover (in a sleeve) to a piece of cardboard using four or six pieces of Scotch tape, then adds a covering piece of cardboard and then tapes the two together, again with four or six pieces of tape. Puts the cardboard sandwich in an envelope and then tapes the flaps and edges of the envelope. And this isn't from a single seller, but seems to be common with many sellers in Canada. Total overkill!

I have managed to get the tape from the packaging stuck to the stamps on couple occasions.It also ruins any glassines beyond further use and lucky if I can rescue the stamps from the cover.Nothing beats the package mom received it had twenty or so stamps stacked up in a piece of paper then folded tightly into the size of the stamps then completely taped numerous times covering the whole thing.I destroyed almost every stamp trying to retrieve them for her.

I often tape the edges of envelopes. Additional strength to keep the envelope from splitting. And if I'm using old stationery I also just might tape the flap. Never had a complaint - and of course I'd never tape over stamps which is - of course - bad philately but also contrary to postal regs.

I also received several ebay lots mailed in FDCs from Canada, but a few had additional postage, one did not.

Jarnick - that has got to be a rare exception - among other things that seller is going way over the 30 gram ceiling for first class "low rate" mail.

Tape is fine, as long as you tape the envelope before you affix the stamps. Put the stamp on top (not under ) the tape......
