Maverick, couple of things.
1. please crop the wasted space around the stamp when scanning. It helps us help you and provides the details necessary to answer your questions.
2, You really should look into getting some catalogs.
3. Only thing significant with that stamp is the damage. |

Correction...I meant not cancelled. Not mint. You seem pretty uptight stalzer. Not everyone can afford international catalogues. Try to lighten up a bit. |

Yes, albums can be expensive, but google is relatively free. A quick entry of "half silb. grosch freimarke" gives me http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&r...CUQFjAB&url=http://www.philateca.com/stamp/29009/2_Silb._Grosch_-_Freimarke&ei=m2CeVN_ZEYzY8gW_wYD4BQ&usg=AFQjCNEdmJWbhuzdKmAhrh_EKx-mOvqt9A&bvm=bv.82001339,d.dGc A ridiculously long addy but it leads me to :- Thurn und Taxis Freimarke Face value: ˝ Silb. Grosch Issued on:1865 Format: Stamp Perforation: Rouletted |

Maverickx, I am not uptight. Catalogs are not that expensive and collecting without them is simply not doable. Any collector who is any type of serious collector would not evn attempt to go without them. The cost of one catalog can easily pay for itself when you find the one variety listed on a particular stamp.
I also mentioned cropping your images to help bring out the detail so that when you ask these quetions we don't have to guess as to the stamp because your scan would show all the detail needed to provide an answer. Personally when I ask a question here about a stamp I provide a 1200 DPI scan so I can provide the most information possible, but that's just me.
Remember, knowledge is power and as I get further into my Canadian stamps I realized that I needed a better catalog so I purchased a USED unitrade 2014 for $30 and have more information to help be determine exactly what stamps I have.
Others I have picked up;
Bridger & Kay for my KGVI stamps, $6 Holmes and associates for Canada $4 Michel for Germany $20
So yes, reference material can be purchased without having to take out a 2nd mortgage. |

Maverickx, YeaPolska is correct, Thurin and Taxis. It is listed as a German State. Your stamp appears to have rouletted perferations. The key to identifying this stamp is the dotted line of color along the rouletting. That is where stallzer is also correct, in his suggestion, of a cropped image. The devil is in the details.
I'm not at home so I can't check the catalog. I believe the rouletted version, with the colored border, (like yours) is the more common of the rouletted stamps. There is a version with no colored border. But, I cannot identify your stamp definitevly without looking it up.
Your local library would have Scott catalogs. You would find this one in the catalog G-I just before the German section with other German States.
I would add my opinion: If you are going to focus on collecting Germany and German states, It seems the Michel catalog is the one to have. |
