I got this at pennies on the dollar! I know it is a damaged stamp, but it is a very early usage of a perfin pattern W.W/U.P (Wm Whiteley's Universal Providers, London W.2).
It is nicely centered for the issue. Overprint good and readable.
Since I could never afford a completely sound version of this stamp
this will do nicely (I collect perfins, not necessarily the stamps from GB). Enjoy

Until I looked it up, I never knew the history of William Whitley's Universal Providers, but it is an intriguing story nonetheless:

I was wondering about the second red dot on your overprint. The cancel obliterates mine. Is two dots after the three normal?
Mine also has a perfin but the stamp is still on a page. Hard to know what the perfin is.

Took another look at my Scotts Cat. It shows an image of the 6d overprint. Sure enough, two dots. I'm thinking it may be two dots under the 'd' not two dots after the number...

stampcrow: Your perfin is the pattern: H & Co/2.C.S ( Hardyman & Co., 2 Crosby Square, London).

Yes the 2 dots are under the "d".

You have a great copy of the stamp. Worth a bit!

Hardyman and Co...Thanks PoStat.
I have it's sister, the six pence 6d, Scott #95 also. No perfin for that one and an ugly blotchy cancel. But a decent used version.
