Yeah, I opened this can of worms. I apologize if I 'hijacked' the thread.
For the record, I'm not qualified to debate the political intricacies of the issue. And I'm not opposed to the representation of any Ethnic group.
BUT I am tired of the stamps. It takes a LONG series of stamps to do one complete cycle. And now it seems we're in for endless cycles. ?

Hey I go to the Mandarin all the time and we had Chinese take out for New Years Day. I'm not against multiculturalism but the government can't favour one over the other because that might cause resentment. Anyway I just got my little Details flyer and looking at the CNY P stamp I see some ugly looking goats. Not a good design at all. In the same issue there is the announcement regarding the Sir John A stamp but no pic. So Canada Post wants to keep us in suspense until the issue date on January 11. What a gimmick. |

It sounds like Canada Post is test marketing some of the antics the US Postal Service did awhile ago to "create excitement" for a new issue, although in the US it became a big flop when the philatelic press and related websites leaked the stamp designs long before the "official" post office announcement. It will be interesting to see if Canada Post can keep it under wraps any better. |

I think that any Year of the 'Zodiac Sign' stamps are useful to sales of stamps and related products because of the zodiac or horscope aspect, Asian or Western or fantastical or no.
Many people worldwide have been exposed to a so called new way of viewing their personality by just seeing the different ideas that are included within the idea of different zodiac signs compared to what we know of before.
Some of the stamps are beautiful and well made, albeit not of a specific country's or even cultue's perspective.
Personality is made up of many beliefs and views, influenced by the beliefs of those around us and the media, including stamps, that are presentedto us.
We see what we want to and hear what we want to and all that, and we get what we pay for also.
I vote for beautiful and personality and cultural sharing.
Some of the stamps are not so good, design-wise, but then again, some are truly amazing and moving, art if you wish, from many countries around the world.

I dunno. The different sized letters and stacked numbers are more a distraction. Maybe if there was some reason for it... But the portrait is good. (Better than the $10 bill) Whoa! The OFDC is a print-monkey's nightmare! |

WOW. All these various sizes of numbers and letters specially on the booklet cover are giving me a headache. Where does Canada Post get these "designers" from? I don't need any stamps for postage right now and will pass on these. Hopefully the Maple Leaf Flag Anniversary stamp will be a better design. Like how can you screw up a stamp showing a flag???? |

Wow 2: Prince Edward Island is missing from the map. While PEI was not part of the original 1867 union, PEI joined Confederation July 1, 1873, while MacDonald was still in power. |

Well no wonder BC. I don't think HISTORY is still being thought in Canadian schools. I'm not even sure spelling is still a subject either. Look at the Canada Post latest Detail pamphlet page 7 regarding Chinese New Year details. Ca lligraphy is spelled with two ll's not one as is shown. But I guess nobody cares. |

Bad spelling is rampant.
Look how you spell taught....lol I see an edit coming.
Unless you think that spelling is not even a thought nowadays.
Probably right. |
