More Ebay Weirdness

This one is an "unprinted" error. The seller kindly provided a catalog number, #104, 1c Admiral (??). I think the funniest part though is the cert statement, "No opinion, this has never been officially recognized." I've seen some crazy buy-it-now values, but $1500 for this piece might be a new high (low).

ETA - Silly me, I didn't even notice this was in the Canada section of ebay.

The ebay listing shows only the reverse of two stamps. There is no indication of what the obverse is. This listing is very puzzling.

I think the obverse is what is shown. According to the listing title, the stamps are fully gummed, which I guess is not shown.

Hopefully Kevin will chime in and explain know how one can positively ID a stamp which was not printed

These have been offered many times over the years. They, I believe, are gummed, unprinted, perforated stamp paper. As I recall the paper and perforations are supposed to be from the Admiral Issue, but don't quote me on that. I haven't seen these advertised for years. Mike

These, and other Canadian errors, came from a very advanced US
collectors ERROR collection. That is how they were marked.
I am basing my findings on his tellings for this item.

The FRONT is shown....the back is fully gummed. There is not any printing on this. I do not know if a BLANK sheet was issued in error or part sheet printed...and this can from a non-adjoining to a printed stamp.
As watermark (Mike) stated...he is correct.

I have had a talk with Randall Shoemaker at a show...
we discussed this stamp. I gave it to him for expertizing then and the cert is what came back....am I happy? NO.
I thought an opinion was to be issued based on the discussion we had.
Oh well...it is what it is?



As for the know-it-all....
No one says you have to buy it...or offer on it.

How does a value become known???
BY SALES!! You have to start somewhere.
I know what I paid for it....it is priced accordingly.
(or I overpaid, simple as that)

As for the asking price, who cares? Just like buyers, the seller is free to do as he/she pleases.

Stanley Gibbons has periodically offered similar items, at similar prices, for selected British issues. They are asserted as having potential value to specialists for things such as microscopic analysis of paper content or production processes, materials sources, or comparisons of printed issues for verifying the paper used in them, but I would expect the number of interested general collectors to be very low. Experts, societies, museums or government collections might want them.

These are not completely unknown.
Here is one from a dealer in Canada who sells rare stamps.

I completely agree that the seller (and buyer) are completely free to do as they please ... As long as both are aware of the "correct" information on the item. If a seller makes an unsubstantiated claim and then claims that they are not an expert, and that they were told by someone that a stamp is something that it isn't ... Then I am completely confused why someone would buy something from that seller. Truly a buyer BEWARE situation. Just my opinion.
