@DJCMHOH - thanks, a brilliant idea. A bit late this time though, I'm already enjoying some/loads of wine in the lounge. No prob, I'm returning regularly, will do as you suggest some fine day.

OK, I had some wine, still what comes to mind when thinking about Brazilian stamps, besides the bullseye, is the jungle of Wmks Hopefully the specialized catalog has something else to offer, beyond the trillion Wmks...?

Blaamand

Oh yes, lots of things, from paper varieties on classical issues to phosphor and flourscent differences on 1960s-1970s issues and lots of info on differences in the various self adhesive issues starting in the 1990s, just to name a few.

Plus it does a very good job parsing out the myriad watermark issues on stamps from the 1920s to 1950s.

Just recently purchased this book from APS. Interestingly, I originally just wanted to borrow it from the APRL, but instead they kindly offered to sell it to me for less than the library + shipping fees would have been

Great deal for me as I embark on a new speciality in classic air mail.

This nice reference book on the Admiral Issue of Canada was bought in December 1982, for $28.00 from APS, by my father.566 pages of extensive research into this beautiful series. More than 550 illustrations, half in colour - of Canada's Admiral issue, .Each stamp, including the overprints and War Tax items, is covered by George C. Marler.

On page 19 of this voluminous thread, jamesw posted this book - noticed after the fact - sorry JW ! Added some text

Hope this one has not been posted ......1972 book, very specialized and full of historic facts on POs !

I got this last week. Very impressive scholarship and production. Not really expensive either.

Captain Alexander Stocki was the perpetrator of a WWII philatelic fraud which still confuses Polish philately to this day. He produced bogus letter seals, postage due stamps, cancellations & fraudulently used Polish Army Postal Bureau's backstamps for a so-called Polish Fieldpost in G.B. during the war. Virtually all stamp dealers & auction houses sell this material as genuine to this day. It isn't & never was.

Just acquired the 2nd edition of "Alexander Stocki - Enigmatic Philatelist" by Roy E. Reader & George K. Kay.

In 75 highly readable pages, the book deals with the life of this colourful character from his early respectable philatelic dealings to his long-lasting "Fieldpost" scam. We used to trade these labels for $1-2 apiece in the Melbourne Polish Philatelic Society so I cringe when I see $30-40 being asked for these on ebay & the like.

In case you're unsure, these are the types of labels involved. Double prints, inverted frames etc. abound.

With Yvert releasing the 2017 edition of their Colonies catalog, decided to pick a copy up as well as the 2-part post-independence Francophonie nations catalogs

Couple of notes

1) As someone who has used Maury for the French colonies, the Yvert catalog seems to be, well, lacking. It's like the difference between a tricycle with training wheels (Yvert) vs a high performance bicycle for use in the Velodromes (Maury). But as Maury is irregularly produced, it is less common in francophone dealer listings, which tend to use Yvert numbers for ID purposes.

2) Amazing to think that while the French colonial period for all these former colonies fit in one convenient (and smaller-page size) catalog for 2017, the same countries (for the most part) post-independence issues require 2 volumes (on much larger pages) and this does not include the last 3-4 years of new issues.

@ Rendon, no worries! Marler's amazing study is worth repeating.

@ stampcrow, that book looks amazing! Just had a quick look on ebay and am seeing copies almost twice what you paid, with shipping doubling the cost Guess I'll wait.
