Here is an unfortunately worse for the wear block of four of the 1969 Sc #488, 25c Hermit Thrush bird stamp with interesting oval cancels on them.

I think they might be hand stamps made by a postman delivering the letter or parcel but am not sure.

The first letters seem to be 'PS' (maybe Postman Strike ?).

Came from some recent small kiloware lots from Calgary, AB.

Anyone know what these are or seen them before?

Puzzler, I agree with Boris... I can see the faint "R" on the bottom images. It is unusual to see those marks on stamps of that era.

Puzzler..The guys are correct..Does look like a big "R"...But what I see is something a little different..look at the circled area over the so called "R"...Strange any cancel would overlap another letter cancel...Just in my opinion.

It seems the letter is a 'P' on irst viewing, in a way, but upon backing up a bit, and then viewing the large 'R' as the main figure in the cancel, you can see that the seeming P figure becomes part of the large R.

Notice the other dots along the edges of other strokes of the R.

This might explain my hopes and your perception.

Thanks Wert, beautiful web page there. Lots of collecting inspiration. I wanted to do something like that here on SCF for modern cancels found also. Neat idea I thought but long in the creation.

When I compare (image next to each other) the two images, mine and the BNAPS one, I still see the PS strangely enough.

Have to check what is actually in the ice cream I'm eating here.

I think I will get (purchase) a registered cancel here myself and see if the two compare in size, etc.
