Need help in identifying these French stamps which are not in the Scott Catalog. They are MNH and appear to be some type of wartime airmail tax stamps. I'm not sure there's any value here but I would like to figure out what they are. Thank you.

Based upon the inscriptions on the stamps, they were issued for/by the Expeditionary Corps of the French Volunteer Legion, and something about Bolshevism. Perhaps used to frank mail to/from the Eastern Front during World War II. The experts will know.

Hi Larry,

They were sold in aid of a French wartime collaborationist organisation:

They also exist with the overprint "FRONT DE L'EST / OSTFRONT".

The stamps are listed mint only in the Michel Specialised Germany catalogue.

My Bad French says it says

"The Expeditionary Corps of the Legion of French Volunteers against the Bolshevism"

It was formed in 1941 and was tacitly approved by the Vichy Government, and was actually French persons fighting with the Germans on the Eastern Front, in other words Collaborators.

I think it was actually incoroporated into one of the Waffen SS.

It was mainly politically prisoners and captured soldiers, who proferred serving in the German Army, rather that being sent to forced labour Camps.
I would then assume that these stamps are "Cinderella's rather than stamps.
Unfortunately that is all I know.

Regards
Horamakhet

They are listed in the Maury catalogue at €20 each but more used and significantly more on piece in period.

Thanks, everyone for the great responses. The history part of it is very interesting. But then again, that's what stamp collectig is all about.
