I'm confused by this cover. It is a wedding invitation to a wedding in Kabul; has a U.S. postmark and the language on the stamp is a mixture of French and Afghan. Any thoughts on how this might have originated?

Diplomatic pouch. The cover originated with someone at the US embassy in Kabul; it was transported by pouch back to the US and placed in the mails. The auxiliary marking is indicative of that sort of treatment.

Thanks paperhistory. That sounds logical and helps create an interesting story around the cover. Now I wonder how many people attended the wedding!
