Hello to all,

I came across an interesting thing when evaluating a stamp on the Stamp Auction Network (SAN). (Spinks sale for 1/21 and 1/22). Lot #63 in the SAN environment shows a 26A which contains perfs on the right side which are well clear of the design and look somewhat normal in terms of their appearance. If you compare this photo to the photo for Lot #63 from Auction House Home Site (from the actual catalogue), you see a stamp that contains much larger perfs on the right and which appear to be scissor cut.

Not sure how I feel about this but in my mind the difference is sufficient enough that it would impact my decision to bid on this item.

Sorry, could not upload photos but they are easy to find if you are familiar with SAN and can look at the Spink Home page and open the catalogue. The cert on the PF database matches the SAN photo.

Just pointing out a variance that if nothing else is unexpected and seems odd. Interested in others thoughts or opinions on this variance.

Thanks.

Errors do happen in auctions and auction catalogs. This is why virtually all live auctions offer a chance to inspect items in advance.

Wish I had seen this message a day ago - I am attending this auction in person and was at Spinks yesterday to inspect items, so I could have looked at the actual item. I'm not bidding on that item, so can't help further. I don't think they allow inspection on auction day.

Hobsun, the stamnp on the Spink site certainly seems to have very neat perfs. It's worth contacting Spink and get them to make a more detailed description. Nice looking stamp though.

I have a hard copy of this catalog and the hard copy catalog and the ecatalogue on the Spink site have the same format and look. However, the image in the hard copy catalog is the same as the SAN image and PF database image, leaving the ecatalogue image for this lot the only one of the four images (SAN, Spink site ecatalogue, Spink hard copy catalog, PF database) to have the long, scissor-cut perfs effect. Very odd indeed.
