I was going through some of my KGV head stamps and found this one. The spot on the "C" in pence makes it look like a "G".

This flaw is not listed in my ACSC, but I only have the 2007 edition. The new edition published last year is supposed to include additional varieties.

Thanks for looking. I believe it is a die 1. It is a SMW watermark.

There is a listed flaw on the C but it's a white blob below it.

Hi 1847 Bill

I think it may be a constant variety, as I posted that one last year on the forum.
I have not found it in the ACSC, but I have not had a good look as yet in the lastest edition.
I posted my copy in the thirty odd page very informative and extremely helpful article by KGV Collector on this forum.
But with you reporting your find, I would say it is a new variety.

A related question for the Australian specialists - I've been using the ACSC catalogs, but found a group of even more specialized catalogs: http://www.michaeleastick.com/rsubp...Group=&Cond=

Is there anyone of the boards using any of these catalogs? The prices are high, but they appear to be printed on demand. Any comments would be appreciated.

- Paul

Paul - it depends entirely on what you collect. Some people collect everything and these specialist publications would not add much to general collections. But if you specialise they are a must.
For example, I am currently studying aspects of the 9d Kangaroo and Map series but could not do this without the Banwell & Parsons publication. They are not catalogues in that they do not normally express opinions on value. They are dedicated to describing the attributes of the individual cliches for the specialist collector and in the Australian context they go far beyond what is published in the ACSC.
There is also a wealth of information for the collector of Australia on the Stampboards site.

Regards
Frank
