Hi

This is driving me nuts. When measuring the perforations on a 10 perf top OR bottom. Using the 2 centimeter. Where do you place the perforation gauge? Where do you place the centimeter gauge? What I understand is that perhaps there was a broken punch.

So should I use the 11 gauge and then measure the perfs?

Thank You
Brian

If I understand what you are saying, a broken perforator will leave a space where the hole should have been, so you would still use the rest of the holes to establish spacing.

I usually put the start line in the middle of a perf "valley" and keep adjusting until the lines are uniformly hitting the same spot, hole to hole. Keep in mind that the major catalogues round up or down to a greater or lesser degree, so you might not be finding exactly the same measurement that the catalogue lists. And don't forget to check the sides, in case you have compound perfs. Even if the catalogue doesn't list compound perfs.

If you are checking a bunch of similar stamps at the same time, once you are comfortable with your results on one, you can hold that stamp alongside the respective sides of other stamps for a very quick check. You will easily be able to spot differences
