Update- I have spoken to the club president who when I told him who it was, dismissed my concerns. Apparently this guy has a track record of exaggerations and often brags about all the great buys he gets on high priced material- nobody at the club listens to him anymore, I was new so that's why he bent my ear.

I just do not see pursuing this any further.

Don - the voice of reason. The last thing anyone should do is barge into this person's life based on all sorts of assumptions.

Thanks for the comment. I am not certain it was reason that motivated my post.

I almost did not make my first post in this thread, but I have become more sensitive to "age-related" comments as I get older. It's my observation that there is another assumption among younger collectors that those of us who are past 65 need to watched some.

Try to show interest and talk to the guy ,sounds like he is looking for acceptance .The statement "apparently this guy has a track record of exaggerations and often brags about the great buys." I saw a lot of that behavior when stamp chat rooms first started on the internet fifteen years ago .
People were taking high price stamp scans off the internet and posting them as items in their collection. But when you asked for a scan of a medium value stamp from the same country to view color ,they walked away from you .It has been a fact of life that people look for acceptance into a group.
