Another oddity - the $5 FDC appears to be the stamp from the souvenir sheet without the margins.

I had thought all of the souvenir sheets were fabric stamps.

That's what I had thought the way it's written up
in the Details magazine and I still think so.

The designer Tsetsekas says that they had problems applying
conventional metallic ink on this rayon fabric material.
Therefore they tried non-metallic inks and finally hit on
aqueous (water based) ink to print the SS.

In Details it shows that for both the souvenir sheets
and for the press sheets the printing process and
the print stock is exactly the same.
So one would think that there is no difference between them.
But who knows with CP, guess we have to wait until February 15.
Isn't that a Sunday?

The $5 stamp peels off the souvenir sheet and is affixed to the OFDC. (in my humble opinion)
Like the NHL $2.50 defensemen.

Canada Post has released stamps on Sunday before....possibly because the brain trust didn't look at the calender while using the willy-nilly method of picking a date.
Why on a Sunday (Feb.15th) this time?
As 'Details' points out, because that's the date the flag first flew over Parliament.
With only a thousand Press Sheets printed, no wonder they're already sold out at $115 each.
That price isn't bad when you consider the one with 18 $10 whale stamps was pricey.

My flag stamps arrived today (two days before release date). The souvenir sheet is the satin rayon fabric. It is not limited to the three at the side of the uncut press sheet.

I did receive my flag stamps today. The entire souvenir sheets are on silky paper. I am including a couple scans, front, back and a blow-up detailed to show how the impression appears on it. Not as crisp as on quality paper, but the result is amazing..and the size of the stamps too. Enjoy

Congrats Gilles.

You're lucky still getting Saturday mail delivery.
I haven't had that in maybe 50 years.

The stamp really arrived in the mail box yesterday, but my wife went to pick up the mail today only. And here are the missing images from my earlier post

Good stuff Gilles.

On the close up the fabric is really clearly visible.

Went to my local Post Office today to get a couple of
$5 Flag SS and the clerk says they don't have any.
But he does have the Ppermanent flag
booklet.
When I ask him when he will get some he answered that
he doesn't know, maybe later.

Can you believe this , here is a $5 (+ 13% sales tax)
basically pure profit item for Canada Post if not used
for postage and they don't sell it.

Same as with the previous international rate souvenir sheets
like the Titanic and the Empress of Ireland, neither the
Post Office or the Shoppers Drug Mart outlets sold them.

I know, I know I can get them from the philatelic centre
but why should shell out another $2 for that service?

I picked up a couple from my local Shopper's Drug Mart P.O. The local corporate post office also has them.

I wonder how used stamps will soak.

Litho, I can get you one at face if you want. Just message me.

Thanks for that kind and thoughtful offer BC but I finally got one yesterday.

The town Post Office (corporate) still did not have any
but the Shoppers Drug Retail Post Outlet had a whole drawer
full.

You would think it should be the other way around?

Anyway I got one and it looks good.

I have to say I put some of these on some packages the other day, and they looked pretty impressive! Certainly lets the recipient know where their mail came from.

As an aside, here's a cinderella with a 1947 proposal for a new Canadian flag made by a former premier of the province of Quebec.
