Are the second pair of perforated stamps originals or is it just the impertorate stamps that are the forgeries?

Thanks Floortrader. It has often made me wonder why these and the Central Lithuania postage dues were extensively forged. They are of little intrinsic value. Surely the forger wants to make money from their art or craft? Does anyone know the history and provenance of the forgeries?

I have my opinions about the forgeries here, but I'm interested to hear what floortrader means by "the first stamps are originals."

Lots of common stamps were extensively forged, often for the packet trade. In the 1930's and '40's, there was an insatiable demand for stamps to fill spaces.

It seems that exotic and dead countries were frequent targets of the forgers, which makes sense. The stamp companies didn't have to worry about getting a cease-and-desist letter from Central Lithuania. At least that's my theory.

I too am unsure which are the originals. I have quite a few mint and used of these. Are there any detailed identification marks to detect the genuine vs. forgeries?

Original stamps are on white paper, forgeries are on coloured paper.

I have to ask whether it is only the 1920 / 1921 basic definitives which are forged, or whether any others have been forged as well. The 1920 / 1921 pictorial definitives are often so poorly printed that they look like a potato print by a schoolchild. Why forge what already looks like a forgery?

Here is the complete page added yesterday . I agree with CJD ,that these forgeries were made for the stamp trade to fill blank spaces in albums .

Can you help me understand what criteria you used to determine genuine from forgery? Stamp paper, print quality and color are all over the place in these issues.

Here is the first page of my Central Lithuania Album, which I have tried to categorize by paper, color and perforation. I would like to include a methodology of determining forgeries in my album for reference. (I can provide higher quality close ups if requested)

Thanks for your help

While you guys are waiting for more information, if any, on forgeries, I have a comment.

Michael- that is one heck of a nice presentation on your digital page.

And I doubt if you stepped on anything, as the smell would give it away first.
