I bought a stamp from a seller through ebay as MNH. Once I received it, I found out its MLH and not MNH. I contacted the seller and told him about it. He told me that he probably made a mistake and he added that he could send me additional stamps as a compensation for free. After sending and replying on what stamps he should send (long hassle), we reached to an agreement (although the price of the additional stamps is less than the difference between the MNH and MLH of the original stamp).

What should I give him as feedback on ebay? Positive?

Yes. As long as you reached agreement, and he did his part, then all is well transaction wise.

Why complain here??....complain to the dealer.
If you reached an agreeement everything is acceptable
by both parties involved.

I've never understood the fascination in MNH. But if that is what you wanted, you should have returned it for a full refund, left whatever feedback you deemed necessary and avoided the seller in the future. Since you and the seller have come to an agreement, a positive feedback should be left.

Either leave positive feedback, or no feedback. Honest mistakes happen, and if the response is appropriate, the seller should not be punished for it. Neutral feedback is considered, by some, to be just as bad as negative feedback. But no feedback doesn't really mean anything, one way or the other. I have never given negative feedback, even in instances where I wasn't happy with the transaction. In such cases, I'll just leave no feedback, and not do business with the seller again. That's how it is in the "real" business world. How often does one seek out the BBB or the AG's Office to complain about a transaction? Not too often, I imagine. (Though I realize that there are people who are perpetually aggrieved who will report the slightest grievance on a moments notice. But that's not the norm.) The feedback thing at ebay is hokey, but dealer's relationship with ebay is affected by it, so they appreciate the positive feedback.

This has always been my motto unless under the most extreme of circumstances. Sort of like "If you can't find something nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all". There is also always the danger of a "revenge review" coming back at you if leaving a negative review.

There can be too big of a price difference between between MNH and MH for you to be expected to accept that situation though, if that applies here.

(I have always had a problem with "mint" and "hinged" being in the same place in a listing but I wont get into that.)

I don't know what his review % is, but before I buy a stamp I sometimes check that very carefully especially if it is an expensive stamp. I will even go into the sellers negative reviews sometimes and see what they are to make sure it isn't one jerk, or a consistent problem, before I buy.

I am surprised at his first response to you being to send you stamps for compensation. If I have had problems with a stamp I've always received a refund. Peculiar.

If the seller will not provide a refund I would take the case to ebay or PayPal, though I don't know how all that works and Pray that I never have to.

There is one caveat though. In addition, if the seller does not have a refund policy, then I could only ask the seller if he would be willing to do that. I couldn't go to ebay or PayPal to complain. It would be my bad, for not reviewing the listing page thoroughly before buying and not noticing that there wasn't a refund option..

I agree with the 5 stars or no feedback at all if you made a deal with seller. You could have asked for a refund. If you requested a refund and he denied it I would have taken that up with ebay. I understand a seller can choose a No refund policy, but if the item is not as described you still have recourse through ebay and Paypal.

Positive feedback is what is appropriate here, in my opinion. Mistakes happen, and the seller was willing to work with you to make sure you were satisfied.
