On ebay USA, the system automatically sends out an invoice to the buyer on completion of the auction. It will not be a combined invoice - this the seller has to do - but an invoice is automatically sent out. The whole invoicing system is messed up, because sometimes a buyer cannot manually combine purchases/payments and then you end up with separate PayPal payments, which cost the seller extra money in fees because of the
refunds, and etc.

When you say he had not set the postal locations properly, is it possible that he only accepted payment by PayPal? If so, he would not need postal location set up, because he would expect a contact mail (Is it okay to send a check or money order, and if so, what is your mailing address) before the sale...

I think that all of this comes down to communication and fair treatment on the part of both buyer and seller. I am sure some sellers are lacking in their skills, but, as an active seller, I also know that there are plenty of lousy buyers out there, too!

John

I had one automatically open case after 5 days on me when I could not pay him because he had not sent an invoice

As johnsim03 stated....every item that ends @ ebay get a invoice sent out.
You can also easily keep track of your selling/buying/bidding, etc...
in my ebay.
Very easy.

His terms stated that he ships with 1 day of payment clearing and I should receive within 5 days. I just went over the listing and I could not find anything about 2 days to pay. I will post a link to the auction after I receive the cover. I may need a refresher on how to link to the auction.

Quate: When you say he had not set the postal locations properly, is it possible that he only accepted payment by PayPal?

Some items say in the ebay screen MAY NOT SELL TO AUSTRALIA and there is no postage rate in the add. I still buy it anyway. You get that ebay message saying congrats you won but in those cases you cannot pay until seller adds in the postage on his invoice. It actually comes up with a red error message please select a different postage location if you try to pay on those.

For the most payment is simple if the seller manages his postage rates properly and puts them in the add, but if he has no postage rate listed in the add then you can't pay it till they send an invoice.

I buy thousands of items so I know. Generally if no postage listed I message the seller before auction ends most reply some don't.

John and Duncanvr,
When I was referring to the Global Shipping Program I was just providing an example of how a seller can select an option that they don't really want. That has nothing to do with this experience. I don't remember saying that he had not set the postal locations properly. Both parties are in the US. I have also bought 1000's of items on ebay since 1998, over 1400 in the last year alone. I was trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt for possibly not even being aware that he chose 48 hours for payment. To be clear the postage was listed and is not disputed. My only reason for posting was my dismay over being reported to ebay for not paying on an auction within 48 hours of the close.

Yes 48 hours is rediculous. There are better sellers about I stick to the good ones and forget the rest.

I usually wait a week before I send a reminder invoice. Then about 12 days another, remindinng them my listing says to pay within 2 weeks. I finally had to open a case last year, and then ebay gives the buyer multiple days to respond, and this buyer waited the whole extra time to pay without any explanation. The vast majority pay within 2 days, but requiring 2 days is ill advised.

sorry this happened to you! I actually just recently dropped the ball and was waiting for a cover that I bought to arrive but turns out I forgot to pay...for almost 2 weeks! Thankfully the seller never said a word. I felt bad and of course paid straight a way when I seen what happened but the moral is: Crap happens. I'm very tankful that wasn't a "meanie" seller. There are good people out there.
