No 30 cent foreign exchange part perfs? :-)

I'm just kidding Dan, that stamp is one of the great first issue rarities. I've seen perhaps 4 genuine examples and about 30 reperforated or trimmed fakes.

*sigh*

Yeah, that's one I need that I'll likely never own. The truly convincing examples I've seen come up at auction over the last 10 years have gone for well over Scott... as in multiples thereof.

I would wager that it is more scarce than the R77a, R80a, R83a, R84a, and R87a, yet it catalogs less. I would also wager that it will catch those other stamps at some point.

It is true that I have seen more examples of all of those, but not a whole lot more of any of them. Part of it is that people know about these others so their popularity is somewhat higher. The R51b kind of snuck up on people over the years because the catalog was relatively low and many collectors thought they would find one just by looking around for it.

You guys caught me at a really bad time! Best I can contribute right now is this scan of revenues I just got on ebay - they should be arriving any day now.

An interesting biography of the person named in the very last stamp (Dr. Seth Arnold of Woonsocket, RI):

These custom house strikes always seem to be crisp.

Here is my not-so-good example to contribute..lol
(I never noticed this before this scan but I see an 1869 manuscript cancel underneath that handstamp? How could that happen?)

And since I don't throw anything away I can offer this space-filler with a SOTN.

well these aren't SON handstamps, but printed cancels. I just picked these up on ebay. From left: American Eye-salve Co. 1877, Weeks & Potter, Reuben P. Hall. They don't look to be in the greatest of shape, but they will fit right in with my M&Ms.

Man, I wish this had been left on its original document. It's a Wells Fargo cancel I have not seen before, and doing a little digging, it looks like it might be a postal cancel. This would have made for an amazing cover, if it in fact was an improper usage, although it's just as likely that a postal canceling device was used to cancel documents...

Obviously there is another cancel under the month of the WF cancel plus the manuscript. Like to see this stamp under a UV to start with.

Not a handstamped or printed cancel, but bold nevertheless.
