True green cancels are fairly scarce. You have to be careful with supposed green cancels, as a blue cancel on a brown or especially orange stamp can appear green due to the interaction of the blue and underlying color. This one is a real green. |

Here are a couple of mine. First up is this R44b with a Bank of Commerce in New York cancel. Next is this R52c with an Ellis P. Moore & Co. cancel. |

Hi Dan - I thought I read about color cancels on your site. Can you give us a run-down of rarity of different colored printed or handstamped cancels? What about different colors of of manuscript cancels? Speaking of colored cancels, the Boston cancels in this lot I just won are only blue, but I'm looking forward to receiving them anyway. Does anybody here want to trade for an extra? |

That is very cool to have a cancellation of Samuel Dexter Hastings along with his signature on the same piece. |

Here is one that I picked up today. It's an R18c with a Ferdinand W. Wagner cancellation. Couldn't find any on google for F.W.W., but the Revenue-Collector site hook me up with the ID. |

Nice one, TexasGunny. Quote: the Revenue-Collector site hook me up with the ID I don't think there is any other site that comes close as a resource for revenue collectors. |

In all fairness, only the Civil War era material really. I offer virtually nothing when it comes to 20th century material and deeper back of book. A superb and extensive resource for the battleship era: http://1898revenues.blogspot.com/ |

Yes, I forget that not everyone focuses on the Civil War era. But it's the best resource for me. |

So that inexpensive R27 lot came in from ebay over the weekend, and as I suspected, all but 4 were silk. What's pretty cool is I was able to reconstruct this block of 9 with the fancy Boston 31 cancel. All must have been canceled together, except for maybe the bottom left stamp which needs to be overlapped just a bit to get the cancel to line up. Quite the zealous clerk wouldn't you say? |
