Good day S.C.F.r's My Uncle Bill found a few covers last night and wanted to know about a postmark so he posted it (on my Facebook wall). I did I.D.'d it as a Money Order Business handstamp but couldn't really find too much more about it in my resources so I would like to ask for a little assistance from you on where to learn more on these please? I may have an old American Philatelist magazine on the topic somewhere around here but any info would be fantastic! Thank you for anyone that can help. Now my image.

He's giving it to me too BTW so that was very nice of him too.

"Money Order Business" is correct. Typically such markings were used on money order forms, but are from time to time seen used as postmarks, particularly in smaller post offices. I believe Jim Milgram wrote an article on MOB postmarks within the last few years, possibly in the American Philatelist. An interesting area but they don't bring a large premium at least in most cases.

Although punctuation variances are common, it is interesting to note that Jim Forte's Postal History Website shows that the postmark for that town was known as "Hammersley Fork" (1893-1972) or Hammersley's Fork (1859-1893). I assume the latter is correct for the cover shown, however, note the apostrophe is missing from the CDS. (Although it could be the apostrophe was left off of only the MOB postmark.)

Also, the addressee of the cover O.W. Wolf, Esq., of North Bend, PA, was Oliver Watson Wolf (1844-1932), born in Jersey Mills, Pennsylvania to Henry M. Wolf and Mary Gamble. Oliver Watson married Martha Jane Harris and had one child. He passed away on August 13, 1932 in Nippenose, Pennsylvania.
