A new coil stamp will be issued Sept. 1, 2017. It will be a commemorative honoring Father Theodore Hesburgh and it will only be available from the cave. The order number is 799400 for a plate number strip of 50. It is already available for pre-order and it will NOT be available at any post office. According to the announcement this is a test, and only 2 million of the coils will be issued. The stamp will be available as a sheet stamp in a sheetlet of 20 at all post office counters.
Price of the 50 coils is $24.50 plus handling.

The latest issue of the Coil Line was sent to members of PNC3. Anyone can view back issues (3 years and older) on their web site, http://pnc3.org.

The above coil stamp, honoring Father Ted Hesburgh was announced by the USPS as being block tagged. I received my roll of 50 some 10 days ago and after checking found the stamps to be overall tagged with a tagging break on the top part of the stamp in position 2L ( 2L - the position of the stamp 2 places to the left from where on Cottrell press printed stamps the joint line would have been ).
I have not been able to see if the sheet stamps are block tagged - the post office here did not have these on sale yet.

Petert4522, they also said the the Patriotic Spiral was block tagged but you would not know it by looking at it. It looks overall and not block by the definition we know. The Spiral was separated on the liner so maybe it was block and the removed liner showed the block.

Angore, if it was block tagged in the conventional way it would have a tagging break on each perforation line. The whole idea of block tagging as to protect the perforator pins isn't it?

Peter - I think you are right (of course in this case it would be a die instead of pins since it is die cut)

Block tagging would not cover the entire surface. My initial inspection showed tagging to the edges including die cuts but I will have to take some close up pics to confirm. Maybe USPS is referring to the fact the entire press sheet is not tagged.

I have checked the coil stamps for the past year, and there are four issues that were announced as block tagged. All four were Ashton Potter products and as far as I have checked none of these are block tagged.

Hi floortrader. Yes, used singles are being collected. Personally I only collect the Transportation Series mint and used, but ebay is always full of offers. And they sometimes come on album pages, the pages for singles are available.
