I recently won an auction lot of MNH stamps and somewhat belatedly remembered I live in humid Florida. We have several different dehumidifying gadgets but I was wondering about a container, does anyone have a suggestion? The stamps are now in albums in mounts.

You do need a dehumidifing agent like some kind of salt or something.
I do not use any, too dry in this place, but it has been discussed on SCF before so be sure to search on here. |

KRelyea.....you do not need a humidifier. Your stamps are not being kept outside in the high humidity. They are kept inside....in a humidity controlled enviroment.
Hieronymus....thanks. |

We often turn the air conditioner off at night wouldn't this cause problems? |

I have lived in Florida for 24 years and ONLY collect MNH. Admittedly I keep the air on 8 or more months a year but even if off at night it's cooler and less humid than outside. Store the stamps in archival materials (eg Vario pages or all plastic stock cards) and perhaps keep your home below 80 degrees. I personally have never had one moment of problems in all these years.

I live in St. Louis where the humidity is awful. The pages of my 40+ year old collection show lots of discoloring from age, but the stamps are pristine sill because they are mounted well.

Also living in Florida, I keep my stamps in the coolest room. That would be my sons room since he's in college that has become my stamp room. His room is the closest to the a/c unit so that room gets the best cooling. |

Not a problem those of use in England have ever faced!
