I'm know I'm a few days early, but I wanted to show my Magnus valentine

It seems that an upside down stamp had various meanings, I'm guessing this one was a positive message.

Anyone else have Valentine's Day items to share?

I was looking at the postmark on your cover ... is that Friendship, NY? It makes for an interesting location in which to post a Valentine.

Hi Jenny2U

In the Victorian era the meaning of the upside down
stamp stood for I love you. and it appears
it still does even now in the US.

Here's a couple of Valentine cards from Mendocino County, Cal. One from way out the California Western railroad at Northwestern, Cal along side of the beautifull Noyo River, and the other is from way down stream almost at the mouth of the river at Noyo, Cal.

I didn't know about the different orientations of stamps having meaning.

I don't have any Valentine themed cards.

I was rather fascinated by the two New York DPO postmarks contained in the Valentine's Postcards posted by Docgfd, so I decided to try and map them and I'll tell you it wasn't as easy as it would seem. They are rather obscure locations that were only small sections (or in New York terms "Hamlets") of a larger community. Nevertheless, I did successfully map them and here's what I found:

Parkers (Lewis County), NY:

Beechford (Ulster County), NY:

A day late for Valentine's Day -- but then this is not really a Valentine's Day Card, but an advertising piece for "Listerated Pepsin Gum" manufactured by the Common Sense Gum Co. of Boston.

It seems some clever writer came up with an interesting advertising piece by grabbing everyone's attention in reading the entire card before you realize they are advertising gum!
