Hi guys...At the club auction last week, got 100's of WW stamps and Britain stamps for $5.00...Was looking at this Scott #48 and it says a "watermark No. 3"...Cant see anything on what "watermark No. 3" looks like.

Sorry, inset from my old 2009 scott catalogue.

Also, do they always have a large non perforated side to them..?
Thanks, Robert

Hi Wert, The watermark #24 comprised of Heraldic Emblems, the water mark would show 3 roses in 3 separate corners and 1 shamrock in the remaining corner. Gary

Oh...the non perforated side is part of a "wing margin". Considered, at one time to be very undesirable so were frequently re-perforated by collectors but the check letters give it away. Now they are collectable in their own right.

Stamp one is one of two possibles depending on watermark...
1912-24 S.G.368 (Scott#162)
1924-26 S.G.421 (Scott#190)
The stamp is fiscally used.

Stamp two is 1934-36 S.G.442 (Scott#213)

Both should be orange-ish

On the left is orange as seen by a photograph. On the right is how a display represents it.

On my screen the solid color panel behind both 2 of the right hand stamp shows signs of orange so that would indicate some kind of oxidization going on. Orange color changing to brown eventually.
