Australia's Mailing Costs!

This Thursday Auspost asks the government for a domestic letter rate to change from 70c to $1.

Other mailing charges come into effect shortly. Mostly parcel post.

Last time Auspost asked for a letter rate change in Nov? they were refused!

Found this today. Still looking if it is a reality.

On the basis of the exchange rate (a very crude guide, I know), not far out of line with the GB 2nd class rate of 53p. $1.50 for an equivalent of 1st class (62p) is significantly higher, though.

Australian and Canadian dollars are almost at par with each other so we are just a bit better off at 85 cents for a letter weighing up to 30 grams

In the US, all the lobbyists for the big mailers howl in pain like they have been shot when USPS proposes a 1c increase.

Very Interesting to hear about all the different mailing rates.

The higher the mailing rate becomes the more expensive or the less kiloware is becoming available.

Can anybody confirm this statement below?

We give free mailing that is going to increase another $300/$400 per month......

Went to my mainland PO today and asked about the new mail charges.

Auspost next Sep will put a proposal to the ACCC for the 1st class letter mailing rate to increase $1.

2nd class mailing already is apart of Auspost as companies like government and banks get off peak mailing charges.

This 1st & 2nd class mailing from Auspost are new terms to me!

Pensioners letter mailing rate will stay at 60c per letter and Christmas stamps will stay at 65c.

Can not see changes until Nov earliest.

I have been following this for some time now.

I am not sure that the bottom end of stamp selling will survive this mailing increase on ebay.

I have already dropped selling S/A letter rate set.

This increase in mailing could be the end of 75% of my listing on ebay and totally change how I list and sell.

I am so concerned that I have seriously gone into the area of selling plants on ebay.

I am on track with the best business plan I can put together.

Have tried mailing plant items to myself and far away and the packaging works really well.I thought that mailing would be the stopper to the whole idea but it is not.

Kiloware and bulk same stamp lots for ebay listing coming up.

So it looks like come the 4th January 2016 the letter rate for Auspost will be $1 and delivery will take up to 6 days. (+ weekends?)

The Priority service offers delivery within 1-4 business days depending on destination, while the Regular service is up to two business days longer than Priority. To send a letter at the faster Priority speed customers will need to purchase a Priority label from their local Post Office or the Australia Post online shop and place it next to the stamp. Based on the $1 BPR, a Priority label will cost $0.50 cents.

So Monday 4th Jan 2016 Auspost increases the letter rate.

I mail a fair bit that is over the new 5mm thickness cost that is $1 per letter and 50c extra for a priority service.

The under 20mm letter will jump from $1.40 to $2.50. I have to pay the extra mailing cost because what is inside the envelop is perishable, being germinated seeds and bare root seedlings mainly.

The stamp packaging works spot on for seeds and seedlings as well.

How are the buyers going to react until they get use to the new higher costs?

Are buyers that get the slow mail going to give a neg in the feedback area to the seller for what Auspost does about delivery time?

If Australia Post was run by someone that didn't throw so much of our money around they would still be making a profit,There's been a few stories about the rorting from within.
