This 1883 Guatemala cover was mailed to Berlin, Germany. There are two backstamps. One is London transit and I need help to identify the black marking on the back. Thanks.

Thanks, Cursus. But, I need a more defined and confirmed answer. Does any collector have a cover that was mailed to Berlin around 1883? Please kindly check the postmarks on the back of the cover. Let me know if you find a similar or identical postmark like this one.

I would say that it is a German "Carrier" cancellation. It is dated 2 days after the red British 'route' cancellation on the back and 2 days later it would be in Germany. Each letter carrier was assigned a number to show that the mail was being carried and delivered properly.

Hope this helps ?
