Interesting card. For time references, ultimo means last month. Instant means the current month. Proximo means next month. I think the last line reads "I am to get" instead of "fit"

I believe the term instant (inst) refers to the most present day or most recent day past, of that numeral dating, as previously mentioned.


I think the fit word is actually fit. It sounds like a fitting or metal fastener that is used as a closure of some sort.

Googling seems to indicate a window shade clasp possibly.

Here is one US patent which would fit the bill, so to speak; if the letter was actually referring to such an animal.

re inst: thank you for the clarifications; I actually meant 'current', but could not find that word :(

re fit/get: by force of habit, I thought like a subcontractor, so the word 'decide' meant to set travel plans to come & fit the part that Mr Fuller had made for Smith & Griggs. The word 'get' does not, well, fit easily with the word 'decide'. Hmm.

I read the card that Smith & Griggs would do the manufacturing and the writer is waiting on some pertinent manufacturing quote or information from them so the writer can make a decision "to get the shade clamp made" (for him by Smith & Griggs or not).

So "fit" makes no English sense AND would be the only example in the entire card of a lower case "i" not getting dotted. I still believe he is writing the word "get". My last word on the subject. I'll let the other grammarians hash it out.

I agree the word is "get". The text of the postcard reads:

'Where' would fit with 'get' in a way that 'when' does not.

If Fuller was making a specialty part, as a subcontractor, he might need to come & fit it to a larger piece.

Yes, it is hard to image that requirement for a shade clasp, so I'll go with get.

First I will let you know I worked for a large telecommunication company in Canada, and one job I had was process management and we were trained under the process of analysing..Now there are 2 types of people , people who analyse and people that don't analyse....NOW under people who analyse there are 2 types of people, those who under analyse and people who over analyse.

Under an analytical situation you do not take what is present in front of you and analyse it, you have to do what is called "root cause annalist"...You have a post card with information that is written down and everyone is trying to rework or analyse what it means...You ( under root cause analyst ) have to know WHAT the original communication on the 19th from this person...It may be as easy as the person was asking a manufacturer if they are going to make those blinds or not..And if not then why make or order the blind clasps...Just something to think about.

What did we do before the internet and search engines? Sometimes the simplest thing (or post card or patent search) turns out to be great look into our past. (and WERT sounds like he worked for the old N.T. :) John don't feel bad, I need to re-read what WERT wrote again --- WAIT, I JUST GOT IT… that was bad -- LOL)

Indeed, before the internet I looked up lots of patents on microfilm and Patent Gazette indices - which still have some occasional advantage over the digital versions.

WOW...I am really getting beat up by Americans today..First on the American section, then on the Canadian section...Time for me to log off..!
