This is some of the fun and games you find in large dealers' lots found at the major stamp auction firms.
Here is an item that was in a glassine marked as BERMUDA scott #50 wmkd 3 at +$100.00. But when I looked it over before adding it to my collection, I noticed the light shading across the center of the face and noticed a faded ink cancel. So the postal cancel had to be fake, or the possibility that the cancel was real and it was used after the revenue cancel was washed off.
But with the poor postal cancel, my thinking it was cleaned, and a poor fake postal cancel was added to fool collectors.

Looks to me like it got used twice and it was the government that got fooled, with no particular fakery or trickery after its second use and no intent to fool collectors later.

There are documented examples of forged cancels being applied to Bermuda cleaned fiscal stamps in Myles Glazer's book on the King George V issues. So I would assume that it was originally used as a revenue stamp and the "postmark" was applied after it was cleaned.

Interesting thought put out by John that the fraud was against the post office. I would like to read the book that KGVI stamps mention above . My thinking is that if it is a philatelic fake and not a postal fake as John stated . Then as a forger I would place the cancel right on top of the revenue markings not off to the right side of the stamp. How do you call it ?

I think a Cancel forger would just give himself the minimum of space
on a stamp to get buy.The rest might just be overlooked??
