Sadly, this postcard was gruesomely & illegibly cancelled - a reason, in & of itself, for collecting MNHOG souvenir sheets - but we can narrow-down the date by the text:

Looks like the [?R...] is a misspelled version of Reagan.

Does anyone collect Australian Antarctic Territories, actually does anyone collect Heard or McQuarrie Islands?
My Heard Island starts in 1947 with the establishment of a Post Office on the old whaling station. McQuarrie Island is a hit or miss collection, mostly stuff of AAT.
Heard Island was also visited by the Challenger expedition in the late 1800's although any postal material from that expedition is very uncommon.

ikeyPikey: There were three International Polar Years (IPY) so far:
The first IPY: 1882 - 1883
The second IPY: 1932 - 1933
The third IPY: 2007 - 2009
I did not find evidence for a mandatory issuance of souvenir sheets on the 2007 - 2009 IPY. In fact Denmark commemorates the event with two conventional stamps and a souvenir sheet.
