I am relatively new to stamp collecting, and I am trying to find out which of the Michel catalogs has the old German States, Baden, Bavaria, Bergedorf, etc. German auctions seem to mostly use the Michel numbers, and I'd like to be sure of what I am bidding on. Thanks for any help you can provide! Warren

Spezial/Specialized Band 1 (Vol. 1)
That being said, if this is an interesting area for you, I highly recommend getting a Germany Specialized from circa 1999 or before. One volume, and it includes information that has since been dropped from the catalogue. For me, the lists of post offices are nice to have in one place. |

Thanks, Cjd. I have a copy of the Germany Specialized from 2007, Vol 1, but it doesn't have the old German States in it. Are you saying that an older version (from 1999 or before) does have the old German States? Is there no newer catalog that has the old German States? Thanks. - Warren |

Is not the first section after the introduction the Altdeutschland section? |

The standard Michel Deutchland 2009-2010 has all Altdeutschland ( from B..Baden till W..Wurtenberg) + Norddeutscher Bund + french occupation 1870. It is located at the beginning of the catalogue, before German Reich. I suppose that all normal Michel Deutschland after 2009 also have it. Before 2009 I don't know. |

I'm wondering if Warren has the ENGLISH language version of the 2007 Michel Germany Specialized Volume 1. As Cjd stated, the German States are in the Altdeutschland section of the GERMAN language version of Michel Deutschland-Spezial Band 1.
As far as I know, the German States are NOT included in the 2007 Part 1 nor the 2009 Part 2 English language versions. The North German Confederation is included in the 2007 Part 1. I don't have any newer English language versions. |

khj is correct. As a novice, I ignorantly bought the English language version of the 2007 Specialized Vol. 1, which does NOT have Altdeutschland. After some investigation that I should have done before I find that Altdeutschland is in Michel Germany Standard 2014/2015 catalog (in German) right where Cjd says it is. I will need to order that catalog. Thanks everyone for your help in getting this resolved!
Warren
P.S. I have some German, so I should be able to bumble through it! |

Magnus, note that there are several versions of the Michel catalog for Germany. It sounds like you are referring to the one-volume Deutschland-Katalog, which is somewhat simplified compared to the two-volume Deutschland-Spezial-Katalog. Both cover stamps of the German states, but the first volume of the Deutschland-Spezial-Katalog has more detailed listings. Which is best for you depends upon how deep you want to get into the subject. There is also the Junior-Katalog, which I presume is even more simplified. |
