I am new to SCF but have been collecting since I was a child. My Dad was not a collector but thought it was a good idea for me to collect. I have enjoyed the hobby so I am glad he got me interested.

I have over the years had the opportunity to purchase some world class albums. A Oriel and Philatelic from Stanley Gibbons. A fantastic Leather bound album from Yvert and Tellier and recently a Frank Godden album. I have come to realize that I also like collecting the albums themselves and I don't think that these albums are going to be made much longer. I have been able to use these albums for my collections which makes it even more fun. Now what to do with the Godden.

I am enjoying reading all the post and thanks for having me as a member. Oh and if anyone knows any other unusual albums let me know.

Welcome Dekka37

Though I don't actively collect albums I have picked up a couple of nice ones at our Stamp Club's Auctions.

I have to admit to a fascination with albums. I'm always looking at them online - either dealer/manufacturer sites or ebay. I think my own album use (vario pages, steiner pages, Davo, Palo, custom made, some old Scott products, HE Harris) reflects this.

Unfortunately, album collecting would be a rather expensive hobby!

DEKKA:

I moved this thread to the appropriate forum. If you look around here, you'll find dozens of other threads on album selection, reviews, etc.

Good luck,
Kirk

Thanks Kirk. Sorry I should have posted there.

I agree ecmorgan. I find myself looking at albums listed on ebay. The old albums are especially interesting. I bought a Scott National unused through 1945.It was neat in that it had a section for war savings stamps. But it appears the owner was a smoker and the album had absorbed a strong smell. I don't want to put it with my other albums so I guess I will try to sell it. But I am going to have to note the smell.

dekka,

Welcome to the Community! You'll have a blast learning from a great group of very experienced collectors.

FYI, the SCF site includes an area for posting "Wanted" or "Trade" items. You may have to reach 50 posted replies on SCF the site before you can gain access to post your own message, but when it's available to you feel free to indicate what albums you might be interested in. Eventually I hope to sell or trade away my Scott Specialty Series album with older US pages since I plan to move my US Revenues into a hingeless album. It's an older model using two peg mechanism.

Best of luck with your experience in SCF!

I also love stamp albums. When I get a spare minute, I put the word "album" into ebay, filter to show just stamp items, and take a squiz at what's on offer. Even the old kids' collections are sometimes fascinating. I half fancy buying a tattered old album crammed with common, well-used stamps, just to have one!

My personal preference is for more humble albums - especially the old SG Swing-o-Ring ones. Also have a fast-bound album for Commonwealth KGVI, which is a real treasure for me (I think they call them 'Crown albums'). I don't go so much on deluxe, padded and high-grade albums. I think they sometimes over-shadow the collection itself.
