I just found this neat Cinderella stamp. I'm not sure why it was used since free soldiers mail usually has nothing in the corner but the word "free". In fact, I am not sure you could call it a stamp. I thought I would share it with you all.

Hi Slate. That's pretty cool. Since it's tied to the cover (well, piece actually) I'd say it was legitimately used. Not as postage of course, but it did go through the system. Nice find!

I have the feeling that this was privately produced, and, possibly by a member of the armed forces to dress up his mail. Just a guess of course.

Anyone know where the LA PO #3 was? If that is what the 3 in the postmark refers to.

The 3 in the dial of the postmark indicates machine 3 and the town/state indicate that machine is at the Los Angeles, Ca. Post Office. A fairly common dial and killer combination for Universal brand cancelling machines.
