I noted in the Higgins & Gage postal stationery catalog, a country listing of "Bushire". This seems to be located on the coast of Iran. They issued postal stationery, and I assume postage stamps as well? Anybody ever heard of it, and/or seen any of the stamps/postal stationery items? I have been unable to locate any stationery items, so I guess they are vastly expensive. Haven't looked up the stamps in Scotts. Comments?

It was a two-month long British occupation of a Persian Gulf port, in 1915. Scott gives 29 major numbers, all with the N prefix. These are overprints on stamps of Iran, so as you might expect, forgeries abound.
I have never looked for postal stationery, but if they have a listing in H&G, then I guess it exists? Not surprising. |

Yepp, postage stamps as well, overprinted on Iranian stamps early in WW1. The place was occupied by the brits for a short while but probably too short for the stamps to be issued in any numbers, they're all quite rare. And as far as I know the forgeries are more common than the authentic stuff. I got one - unable to say if it's genuine or not - I am happy to let it fill otherwise empty page! I believe Indian stamps were also used in that town, so these postmarks on Indian stamps are sought after. Have no clue about the stationary!
Edit - already beaten by Cjd and John... |

Gibbons references India in relation to Bushire in at least two places.
In the Bushire listings, it says that troops returned to Bushire in 1916, but mail was carried by Indian Army F.P.O. No. 319.
In the India used in Iran section at the end of India, it says a post office was maintained in Bushire from May 1, 1864 to April 1, 1923, and the cancels in Bushire were "308" "26" (also used elsewhere) and "K-5".
So something else to look for. |

Cjd - Thanks for sharing that info - I did only have the 'K-5' in my postmark-database for India. ClassicalStamps - thanks for the link. btw - I aquired my example from an ebay seller in Denmark... I assumed it to be forgery but I still wanted a spacefiller. |

OK, thanks for all the info. Learn something new everyday! To continue this.... I have yet to see any of the postal stationery. I have 3 emails out to big time collectors in the UK, but haven't heard back from them as yet. Will advise when I do.
Next, after linking to the links provided and a few I found on my own, India sees to have gotten into the game (thanks cjd). I can only assume that all one will find on this route are cancels on current items of that period. I relooked through all of my India stuff, nothing.
I will probably never be able to afford any of this stuff, but one can dream...... |
