In addition to the many varieties identified in the four panes of the Krieghoff sheet, I have another possible variety in the upper right pane, position 1.

The other known varieties on the upper right pane are:
610i - broken door frame (all column 4 stamps
610ii - Extra log in snow , position 39
610iii - Extended "1", position 14
610 iv - Icicle on roof, position 45

There is a black dot on the lower edge of the image.

Does anyone else have this dot in this same position?

Blackjag and wert, that one is listed in the (now out of print) Darnell catalog. It is called "Rock in the Snow".

Unfortunately 3Dadeo, Unitrade does not recognize it so we can't put a Scott number to it...Even if we or more people have the same dot, it is very unlikely Unitrade will recognize it as a constant..They don't seem to listen to collectors..

It has been my experience that Unitrade has been very attentive to collectors - even minor players like myself. Perhaps it is as God (in the form of George Burns in "Oh, God!") said, "You pray - I'll listen."

Members of the BNAPS Elizabethan Study Group may have seen my article on the Krieghoff varieties in the recent 2015 Jan-Feb issue of Corgi stamps. I showed this variety, and other unlisted ones.

Yes Blackjack, it is constant.

BeeSee, if it is a constant, then why doesn't Unitrade show it in their catalogue as a constant..???

BlackJag..All mine do not have that mark as far as I can see.

If Unitrade listed every variety that is constant you would have many volumes to look through. Many of those volumes would concentrate on only one stamp or perhaps a single issue. Take for an example the 5c Beaver Unitrade #15. Many specialized Volumes of this stamp have been done, many complete plate studies. Yet there are still new discoveries being made on just this stamp. Unitrade is meant to be a good general reference catalog and does this quite well. They include some but by no means all of the more significant varieties. Other references should be bought or written if you wish to specialize on constant plate varieties. Many specialized books have been written over the years and none have every constant plate variety in them. It would be a near impossible feat to have every single constant plate variety listed as new ones are found every day and you would have so many volumes to publish the cost of the many volume catalog would be unbelievably expensive. I have many stamps in my re-entry collection, that I have discovered, which have been listed in Unitrade in recent years; but I have far more that have not. Enjoy what you find and write them up and share with other collectors. Sometimes they may have the same variety and can share more information with you.

watermark, Unitrade front page says "The Unitrade specialized catalogue of Canadian stamps"..That SHOULD speak for itself.

And IF they don't print all constants, then how is a newbie or even an experienced collector suppose to know..Just guess at it..??..

Wert, the "Rock in the snow" variety appears in position 1 on 1 of the 4 panes of 50 that were cut from the press sheet of 200.

Here is an illustration of pane #2 that shows 5 of the most common varieties. V2-1 is the "Rock in the snow".

Wert, that is my own illustration, which has been posted on another stamp forum, along with the other four panes, and also formed the basis of my article in Corgi Times (though this illustration is not shown).

I'm not much into flyspecking but just out of
curiosity I checked my only copy of the UL
imprint.

And found..... no black dot in my position 1.

So this "variety" only appears once on one of the four panes
on each sheet.
Correct BeeSee ?
Compared to the "broken door frame " variety (Unitrade 610i)
which occurs 10 times on every pane.
So obviously there is a difference between a constant
variety appearing only once per sheet compared to
a constant variety appearing on every pane of the sheet.

You are correct Litho.

Here is another unlisted variety, the red line beside the sleigh. It is on pane 3, stamp 32 and is constant.

In my opinion, to suggest that the Unitrade people "don't seem to listen to collectors" because they do not list every constant plate variety including a dot on an issue that already has numerous other varieties listed is quite unfair. As already mentioned here, listing all reported CPVs would make any Canadian catalogue unwieldy and expensive to produce and sell. Quite beyond what most collectors would be willing to pay. Several of Canada's classic stamps have so many CPVs that each position on the plate is literally a different stamp if you want to count each dot or scratch. Add to this the different plates and the different states of each plate, and the Unitrade catalogue would need to be a 10-volume encyclopedia to cover it all.

Another very significant consideration is that the Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps is just that, a catalogue. Listing hundreds of extremely minor varieties for which there is no market pricing information would be of no use to anybody. The catalogue has already begun to list a number of major re-entries where there is interest but little or no pricing information in an attempt to establish some market pricing.

Personally, I find the Unitrade catalogue to be and extremely useful resource that is constantly expending (beyond listing the newest issues) and very much in tune with the needs of collectors.
