Maybe "shocked" was a bit overly dramatic when I saw nothing listed for sale within SCF.
I appreciate the shared thoughts. Obviously, many see SCF as a friendly and personal space where collectors can learn from one another and make new friendships.
I would not be interested in building on my own SCF membership if it did not offer the "Family" environment that the "pillars" have established. SCF as a congenial learning community is superb as it is. So I'm not whining because sales isn't a priority. Reading my very first issues of "The American Philatelist", "Linn's Stamp News" and "Mekeel's & Stamps" makes very clear that there are many stamp sales venues.
So while I can be convinced that maybe it is best for SCF members to do our commerce outside this forum;
it hardly makes sense for a forum of several thousand to show no interest in trading, buying and selling amongst "friends".
I have read with great interest how
ebay has outraged many long-term sellers with the company's new Buyer Protection Policy. Sellers can now have their PayPal payments returned to the buyer by
ebay without any direct challenge to "problem" transactions. I have a couple albums of dupes I plan to sell or trade. But do I want to have a buyer claim to
ebay that my items "Were not what they expected" and then see
ebay raid my PayPal account and refund my proceeds? That would not sit right by me.
After I post my 100th topic, I'll post my first sale offering, or trade offering. And I'll see if anyone notices. But being a marketer, I point out that since I have never seen a posted sales item on our forum, I would have no reason to check that link in the future. No traffic certainly doesn't generate much auction bidding.
Cheers all,
