See ebay UK site and search for title:

#255 Penny Black 'used' on cover (not!)

Stamps obviously replaced a 1d red as seller states

So 1 penny black does not belong on the cover

Stamp has a split in it above the queens crown

I am amazed anyone would want it and people are bidding on it,

why do they want damaged stamps? And wrong stamps that have been replaced on the cover?

Maybe they don't know any better? Maybe they specialize in such "varieties."

Imagine an ebay where the buying community was able to add comments to the listing.Now that would make for a vibrant market place - an e-petticoat lane.

Good idea comments by ebay members in listed items. I can imagine them like why is this priced so high. I still cannot believce people collect torn damaged stamps when they are potentially worthless.
