This is a mini-sheet that showed up in a bulk Argentina auction lot I purchased. It's interesting but, I was unable to find reference to it in Scott. Can anyone help with identity?

I do not have Scott at hand, but these are Michel # 1599-1604, Centenary of the foundation of the City of La Plata. Issued Nov. 20th, 1982. With a date, it should be easy to find it, or not?

Many people are not that interested in collecting Argentina..which makes it a very economical country to collect..but like anything else..the deeper you go....i understand its a challenge to try and complete the 'departments' overprints !!

Phil...There is a member in my club who collects Argentina.

He is a doctor, he gets all of his stamps from his family, who send him all the new issues that are released.

Everything prior to 1970, he acquired while living in Arg.

I collect Argentina as well. Like Phil said, there are not many interested so you can get stuff for low prices and it is also true that it is at the same time a complicated country to collect. Many watermarks and varieties and the stamps from the last 25 years are hard to get.
I suppose that I am lucky to have most of the ministeriales (department service overprints)

Another case of stamps that cannot be found in Scott because they economized on the pictures. Lousy catalogue...

At my stampclub there is one other person who collects Argentina. His wife is from Argentina (no, he is not the crownprince ;) )

Thanks especially to Jan-Simon for the solution but to the rest of you for the sleuthing and interest. Forum members again to the rescue. Sometimes one just needs a fresh set of eyes. The rest of us had the right idea by checking the inflationary era but truly the catalogers did us no favors by not giving us a picture and seemingly burying the listing. They must have missed the lack of any resemblance between the type A650 and the sheet issues. I guess a letter to the editors with a scan is indicated. I'll see what happens.
Also, I am heartened that there are more Argentine collectors out there. I have thoroughly enjoyed both the cost and availability issues but also the challenges.

A few years ago my daughter Monique and her husband Charlie decided to get away for a few days..they were looking at Montreal and the travel agent told them for a couple of hundred dollars more they could go to Buenos Aires...off to Argentina...Charlie left the hotel for cigarettes and to scope the situation out..he came back and said.."just think Manhatten" they went to a ritzy restaurant for dinner and the bill came it was a hundred..so Charlie figured just like New York..but it was 100 pesos..at 3 pesos to the dollar..they had fun !!

Good luck with your letter, but I doubt it will make a big impression. Scott is no Michel and as I see it, a miracle is needed to get Scott make it to that level. It's simple: in a catalogue you need pictures of each design, not just one for a set or whenever the editors find it fitting.

Besides Argentina I also collect Chile, Brazil and Peru, for more or less the same reasons. Much more satisfying than for instance Germany or France (and more difficult as well)

Just to keep everyone up to speed. I wrote a letter to Scott regarding the problem with the unclear catalog listing involved in this posting. I received a reply and they agree that the listing is confusing because the reference stamp bears no resemblance to the Souvenir Sheet (SS) shown here. They assure me that this will be corrected and the SS will be illustraterd in the 2011 catalog.
