Hello Everyone,I got this cover also through ebay&again cheap. Not really a special cover except that a block of 1938 issue 1/2 c.Plus 1 c(?)additional not to mention the bold "target "Cancel,(Postmasters signature)Also know as "bullseye cancel"...I just liked it regaurdless of value,The cachet maker was very innovated!...HAPPY HUNTING!!
I like it, very nice cancel. Looks like something created by the Erie postmaster, maybe to mark a special occasion? I've seen one similar to this, but with Lincoln stamps.
I will have to look into that. The special occasion that is.I collect Erie PA. history in general&at this time I can NOT think of any special event's except possibly a postmasers anniversary,P.O.anniversary,I WILL look into it.Thank's raymodj for the kind word's& info.HAPPY HUNTING!
I suspect the collector wrote to hundreds of post offices to get current cancels and there is no particular local occasion. I have several whole-state sets made in the 1970s.
