another good source I have found for specialized catalogues is www.collectura.com has a large stock and ships parcels using Dutch stamps. In my library I currently have sets of Maury for France & Empire, Afinsa for Portugal & Empire, Isfila for Turkey/Ottoman Empire, Gulliermo Jalil for Argentina (order direct from them, the price is very reasonable for what is an absolutely gorgeous hard-cover catalog in color) and Stanley Gibbons catalogs for Australia, New Zealand, and Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei. There are also some very good catalogs online for free that can be used. The Philiatelic Club of Uruguay has uploaded the Cerudi Uruguay Specialized Catalog from 2006 in PDF files at www.clubfilatelicodeluruguay.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http:// www.clubfilatelicodeluruguay.com and www.romaniastamps.com for Romania. There is also a really good specialized online catalog for Brazil, but I've lost the link |

I have a large quantity of French back-of-the-book stamps (fiscal, parcel post, tax, etc.)that I'm sorting through. Can anyone advise if any of the major stamp catalogs (Maury, Yvert, etc.) has a good listing of these types of stamps? |

Yvert's focus is on postage stamps, so, in general, parcel post and tax stamps are there, but others aren't, with the exception of telegraph and telephone stamps for the "classic" period, ie before 1900. A lovely catalogue, by the way!
I only have Maury for Africa - similar coverage, although later telegraph and telephone stamps. And it illustrates every stamp.

Geoff,
Thanks for the help. I'll do some more research on the Maury and then make a choice.

Great topic! I am consistently awed by the depth of knowledge and experience many of you folks exhibit here. I am currently limiting my collection to US. I use the 2014 Scott Specialized Catalogue purchased via a recycling library.
My question has to do with US Revenues and other BOB issues. Are there other catalogs / references that would be useful for me to rely on, or does Scott cover these BOB issues adequately? |

The Sieger catalog is not published in English. Michel has an English version of its Zeppelin catalog -- I highly recommend it. Search "Michel Zeppelin Specialized Catalogue 2003" on the internet or in ebay. |

Scott is a general catalog. While it does give some details, there's much more to it than what it contains or can contain. For starters, search the famous book selling site for "US revenue stamps" and see what you get. |

Hi LarryK,
Yvert et Tellier publish a separate catalogue for French revenue and social security stamps, Catalogue des Timbres Fiscaux et Socio-Postaux de France.
This also German and French stamps from Alsace-Lorraine.
The Maury catalogue doesn't include revenues but it seems to have good listings of a wide range of postal BOB items.
My 2009 catalogue includes parcel posts, advertisements on booklet panes, carnets, dated corners, training stamps, strike issues, local wartime issues, millesimes, precancels etc.

Nigel...
At work. Don't have my Y&T or Maury catalogues at-hand.
Doesn't Maury include details re stamp design as well as production quantities? Which is info not included in Y&T?
Also prefer/appreciate Maury's details re "flyspecking".
Thx.

Hi CalStamp,
I don't have a Y&T postage stamp catalogue so I can't compare the two but yes, Maury includes quantities and designer information.
I have two editions: 2009 in two detailed paperback volumes and also 2018 in two volumes, one hardback and one paperback.
The 2018 edition was published by Spink who had bought the catalogue.
The hardback volume 1 is a beautiful book and both volumes were sold together for a very reasonable price.
I don't really know my way around the 2018 set but in practice I find it easier to use for my purposes although this is at the expense of having less information.
For example, the 2009 edition includes a lot of additional information on the many changes of French postal rates, and pricing for many stamps on cover for different rates.

Thank you, Nigel.
The Maury single (hard bound) volume is a "work of art". And very affordable.

Would add for Austria, Bosnia Herzegovina that Ferchenbauer (most recent 2008, four volu) is excellent for both postage and postal history. Michel Austria is also quite good. For Hungary, 'A Magyar Belyegek'-the 'Gondolat' catalog. Perhaps these are more 'handbooks' since they do not purport to advance their own numbering system except Michel naturally. |
