Hi Everyone,
I did a search for "see through" stamps but couldn't find anything. Can anyone tell me about these stamps? Why would a stamp not have the country name on it? (Lion), the year. What kind of paper is the Nigeria Ground Nuts? I have never heard of Thuringen, and the red border stamp is see through! Thank you so much,
Sue

The very distressed Nigerian stamp was recess printed by Waterlow. There's nothing special about the paper type (eg chalk-surfaced).

Did you try googling the word CORREOS -- The first thing I saw was something about "the national postal service of Spain, as recognized by the Universal Postal Union."

The recumbent lion is a Moroccan local issue for mail from Tangier to Tetouan - noticed it while leafing through Yvert. Five values in the set. The 5c is catalogued at 30 cents (Euro).

Sorry - should have added that it was issued in 1896, so he's been asleep for a long time.

RE Nigeria Ground nuts is another name for Peanuts. Sometime during the final days of the British Empire (post war to 1965) there was a scheme promoted to grow Peanuts in Africa on a large scale, I don't know the reason but the scheme was started but failed big time.
