I just received a couple sets of Scott album pages, put them in a binder and then started working on them today. That's when I noticed they are visibly wrinkled. If you look at the top/bottom of the pages in the binder you can see a wave. Not so apparent when viewing a page but it still is visible. This wouldn't bother many folks, but it does me.
One thing- I do have about 270 of these pages in one binder- too full. would overcrowding cause this effect? I have to wonder if they weren't sitting in shrink wrap too long, or something. I doubt there is any way to smooth them out, or is there? Comments welcome.

Hi Stamps1962
If they are brand new I would call the seller and request a replacement. You might be surprised.
I do not use pre-printed pages but 270 pages in one binder sounds pretty "stuffed". I would consider one or two more binders and start spreading the pages between them.

Just emailed Amos. The problem upon inspection seems to be focused on one unit (I ordered two parts of a specialty album). The other looks ok. What I am afraid of is that someone will just shoot me another replacement unit with the same issue, not opening and inspecting before shipping. This happened once with Mystic, they sent three sets of pages- all had the same 'issues'.
The problem seems to be the shrink wrap Amos uses. It protects the contents well but if a product sits for awhile on their shelf, I think it tends to cause damage. The unit in question was wrapped so tight it was bowed. I also wonder if Scott is using lower quality paper these days. These pages look a bit more 'yellow' than others I have and seem thinner. |

You probably received older stock that's been sitting around for awhile. Amos is selling a lot of album parts on a print-on-demand (POD) basis these days, which I'm sure helps them avoid getting stuck with a bunch of inventory that just doesn't move. It would also help avoid problems like yours and thus returns/refunds/replacements. They seem to keep the more popular pages in stock, but I'm guessing more and more pages will go the POD route as inventory runs out on pages they have in stock. Theoretically, if the operation runs smoothly enough and is based close to their customers, all pages could be POD and the customer wouldn't even know it. There's no technical reason your album pages couldn't be printing within minutes of your credit card clearing and be off in the mail within 24 hours. |

Totally useless to ask for a replacement, how you think the pages will look after you will place stamps on them ? Especially with mounts, they will not only bow, they will have S shape and all the letters of the alphabet. It's happen with real quality album like Davo and Lighthouse so don't expect too much from cheap Scott paper |

I talked to a Customer service person at Amos this afternoon. Interesting conversation, got the feeling she knew more than she was saying. she suggested I subject these pages to weight until early next week and if that doesn't straighten then out to let them know and they can do a replacement. I am doing that, just spot checked after few hours and it does look like it is not so noticeable now. she said something about them being 'print on demand' and was wondering how this happened, explained they weren't. They couldn't have been, I got them three days after ordering. I suspect this may have been the tail end of some stock that had been sitting in wrap for a few months. I don't use many mounts, collect used in this area (Russia). I am perhaps being obsessive but I am a perfectionist in my collection. Not so much in other things.. |

That's of course assuming they have a POD Press. They may just be laser printing them and sending them to you. |

I personally think the quality of Scott Specialty album pages have been on a steady decline since AMOS took over.
Thinner paper of lesser quality, uncorrected page errors, missing places for issued stamps, horrible box sizing for stamps, usually TOO BIG, even when using mounts. Supplements for older issues out of stock for excessive amounts of time.
In this day of age with available technology, AMOS should be able to print any album pages, on demand, at any time, on high quality paper for a reasonable price.
The way it should work is they get an order, log it into the computer which is immediately sent to the printer and printed; then packaged and shipped immediately. The technology is out there, they just need to use it.

I wish they'd reprint many of their specialty albums. Almost all collectors now use mounts and theirs are still formatted for hinged stamps- with all the linked boxes, etc. They did this with their US albums and I think also BNA, but not on any others, although pages added in the past 20 years or so all have individual spaces. Their paper is thinner than it used to be and looks more yellow than cream colored. |

Update- Amos emailed me a shipping label to return the problem pages. I have ordered another section of the album which will be special printed along with the replacement pages for what I returned. If you try to meet people partway, it's amazing what you can accomplish. Now if these are messed up.... |
